Established in 2006, BEAK began as the preferred source for Aviation landing systems for the Royal Australian Navy. Over the ensuing years the company has evolved into a leading OEM in the field of Ground Support Equipment, specialising in Ground Power Units for both Military and Commercial applications, whilst maintaining its core business of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul for military aviation systems.

With our specialist knowledge and in-depth experience, BEAK can design and manufacture GPU’s ranging from 45kVA – 180kVA 400Hz and 270VDC. BEAK has developed its product range through a strategic sourcing selection model of world class manufacturers to provide “turn–key” GSE solutions.

BEAK are innovative in their approach to business and are continually developing state of the art products through their advanced design and development techniques. All of which is supported through a dedicated team which delivers on-site training, full program design & management capabilities, preventative maintenance programs, servicing and overhaul and testing capabilities.

  • Trent Richards
    General Manager

    Trent is regarded as a Subject Matter Expert within the areas of Supply Chain and General management.

    Trent maintains proven management and leadership abilities which include highly developed interpersonal and communication skills coupled with a proven aptitude in developing, influencing and maintaining productive and cost effective working relationships with strategic partners and stakeholders on a national and global front.

    Trent’s credentials include Masters Degrees in both Supply Chain and Business innovation. He also maintains numerous accreditations that he received during his 18 years’ service with the Royal Australian Navy..

  • Kal Desai

    Kal is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. He began is career in 1998 and was part of the BHP Billiton graduate scheme. Kal then moved to the UK in 2002 where he worked in large multinational businesses across the telecommunications and media industries. In 2009 Kal was offered the opportunity to work in the UAE where he was a key lead in the successful sale of a local media business to Thomson Reuters.

    In October 2015 Kal relocated back to Australia to take up the CFO position with BEAK where he will be responsible for the financial and strategic direction of the Company.

  • Phil Shirley
    Business Development

    Phil brings 24 years of naval experience to BEAK Engineering. His qualifications in the aeronautical field include a Diploma in Aircraft Engineering Airframes and Engines and a Certificate in Engineering Aircraft Metal Fabrication. He was heavily involved in the development of rotary wing operations for the ADF Special Forces. His non aeronautical qualifications span from Clearance Diving to Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Counter Terrorism.

    Phil’s management credentials include Certificate IV’s in Frontline Management and Training and Assessment and is a certified Quality Assurance Inspector.

  • Ian Couper
    Electrical Engineer

    While at BEAK Ian has been employed as an Electronic Design Engineer responsible for the Design, Testing and Repair of the following equipment:

    1. Tarmac and Off-road based Aviation Ground Power Units ranging in size from 45kVA to 180kW, including but not limited to the Design and Testing of the following GPU’s currently in use by Qantas, G06, G16 and G20 90kVA GPU’s, G09 and G13 160kVA GPU’s and G15Q 180kW GPU’s.
    2. Specialized 50Hz Gensets for the Defence Forces.
    3. Rotary Frequency Converters, from 60 to 90kVA in capacity.
    4. 400Hz Loadbanks from 21 to 81kW in capacity.
    5. Static Inverters and Converters.

    Ian is responsible for all aspects of the Design/Production process including the initial Tender response, equipment specification, major component selection, design and development, prototype construction and testing, production management, QA, Customer liaison, training and repairs.
